Knights Templar - Medieval History
The Knights Templar was a medieval Christian military order founded in the early 12th century during the Crusades. Originally established to protect pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land, they gained wealth and power, developing a network of fortifications and financial systems. Recognizable by their distinct white mantles adorned with a red cross, they became renowned for their military prowess. However, by the early 14th century, political tensions and accusations of heresy led to their dissolution by King Philip IV of France, resulting in many members being arrested and executed, ultimately shrouding the order in mystery and legend.
