Knights of St. John
The Knights of St. John, also known as the Knights Hospitaller, originated in the 11th century as a Christian military and religious order. Initially established to provide care for sick and injured pilgrims in Jerusalem, they later became known for their military role during the Crusades. The Knights operated hospitals and fortified positions across the Mediterranean. Over time, they evolved into a significant naval force, protecting Christian territories. Today, they are primarily recognized for their humanitarian work, operating as the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, focusing on medical and charitable missions worldwide.
