Kingdom of Hanover (Until 1837)

The Kingdom of Hanover was established in 1814 and lasted until 1837. It was unique as the British monarch, King George III's descendants, ruled both Britain and Hanover. However, Hanover was an elective monarchy, meaning the king was chosen by a group of nobles rather than inheriting the throne automatically. When King William IV became king of Britain, he couldn't inherit Hanover due to the Salic Law, which limited succession to male heirs. As a result, the kingdom passed to his brother, Ernest Augustus, highlighting the complexities of royal succession across different governments.
