Kimberley Process
The Kimberley Process is a global certification system that aims to prevent conflict diamonds—diamonds mined and sold to fund violence and rebellion—from entering the mainstream diamond trade. It requires participating countries to verify that their rough diamonds are conflict-free through a certification scheme. By doing so, it helps ensure that the diamonds consumers buy are ethically sourced and not contributing to human suffering or conflict. Established in 2003, the process promotes transparency and responsible commerce in the diamond industry while supporting efforts for ethical sourcing worldwide.
