Jupiter's moons
Jupiter has 79 known moons, with four large ones called the Galilean moons: Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. Io is the most volcanic body in the solar system, while Europa is covered in ice with a subsurface ocean that may harbor life. Ganymede is the largest moon in the solar system, even bigger than the planet Mercury. Callisto has numerous craters, suggesting it’s ancient. The smaller moons are diverse and can be irregularly shaped, indicating they may have been captured by Jupiter's gravity. These moons provide valuable insights into planetary formation and the potential for extraterrestrial life.
