Judgment Liens
A judgment lien is a legal claim against a person's property, created when a court rules that they owe money to a creditor. If someone wins a lawsuit and the court awards them a judgment, they can file a lien against the debtor’s real estate. This means the creditor has a right to be paid from the proceeds if the property is sold. The lien remains until the debt is settled or the lien is legally removed, ensuring the creditor's claim is secured against the property owned by the debtor.
