Johann von Nepomuk was a Czech priest and martyr from the 14th century, known for his strong commitment to the confidentiality of confession. He is often remembered for refusing to disclose the secrets of the confessions he heard, which cost him his life. Nepomuk is venerated as a saint in both the Catholic and Orthodox Churches, and is often depicted with a halo of five stars, symbolizing his virtues. He is considered the patron saint of bridges, as well as of confessors and those who are falsely accused. His feast day is celebrated on May 16.
