Jacobite supporters

Jacobite supporters were individuals in the 17th and 18th centuries who sought to restore the House of Stuart to the British throne after it was ousted in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. They mainly supported James II and his descendants, believing in their right to rule. Jacobitism was especially strong in Scotland, where it was linked to notions of Scottish nationalism and opposition to English rule. The movement led to several uprisings, notably in 1715 and 1745, but ultimately failed, resulting in the decline of the Stuart claim to the throne and significant political and social changes in Britain.
