Prince Charles Edward Stuart
Prince Charles Edward Stuart, often known as "Bonnie Prince Charlie," was a Scottish prince and key figure in the Jacobite uprising of 1745. Born in 1720, he was a grandson of James II of England, who lost the throne. Charles sought to restore his family's rule by claiming the British throne. His campaign garnered initial support, notably winning the Battle of Prestonpans, but ultimately failed at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. This defeat marked the end of serious Jacobite efforts to reclaim the throne, leading to significant political and social changes in Scotland and Britain thereafter.
