Jack Swigert
Jack Swigert was an American astronaut and test pilot, best known for his role as a command module pilot on the Apollo 13 mission in 1970. During this infamous mission, an oxygen tank explosion put the crew's safety in jeopardy, but Swigert and his teammates worked tirelessly to develop a plan for their safe return to Earth. Before joining NASA, he served in the U.S. Air Force and participated in the Apollo program. After his astronaut career, Swigert entered politics and was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, although he passed away from cancer before taking office.
