Ito Hirobumi was a prominent Japanese statesman and first prime minister of Japan, serving four terms during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He played a crucial role in Japan’s modernization and westernization following the Meiji Restoration, advocating for reforms in government, military, and education. Ito was instrumental in drafting Japan’s first constitution in 1889, establishing a parliamentary system. He also helped expand Japan’s influence through foreign diplomacy and territorial gains. His political legacy significantly shaped Japan’s emergence as a modern nation, impacting its role in international affairs. Ito was assassinated in 1909 while on a diplomatic mission in Harbin.
