Ito Hirobumi (first Prime Minister)

Ito Hirobumi was a prominent Japanese statesman and the first Prime Minister of Japan, serving multiple terms from 1885 to 1901. He played a key role in modernizing Japan’s government and constitution during the Meiji Era, transforming Japan into a centralized, industrialized nation. As a Japanese diplomat and reformer, Ito helped establish Japan’s parliamentary system and promoted modernization efforts in law, military, and industry. He also contributed to Japan’s growing international presence. Tragically, he was assassinated in 1909 by a Korean nationalist who viewed him as oppressive. Ito’s leadership significantly shaped modern Japan’s political landscape.
