Islamic State Khorasan Province

Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) is a branch of the Islamic State (IS) that operates primarily in Afghanistan and surrounding regions. Formed in 2015, it aims to establish a strict form of Islamic rule. The group has been involved in numerous violent attacks against Afghan security forces, civilians, and minority communities. ISKP emerged amid the instability in Afghanistan and the withdrawal of U.S. forces, exploiting the situation to gain influence. It is distinct from the broader IS organization, focusing on the cultural and historical context of the Khorasan region, which includes parts of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran.
