International Security Assistance Force (ISAF)
The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was a NATO-led mission established in 2001 to support the Afghan government in maintaining security and stability following the U.S.-led invasion that ousted the Taliban. Its primary objectives included training Afghan security forces, conducting military operations against insurgent groups, and aiding in the reconstruction of the country. ISAF operated until 2014, transitioning responsibility to Afghan authorities while continuing to provide support through a follow-on mission. The effort involved contributions from many countries, reflecting a collective international commitment to fostering peace and security in Afghanistan.
