Incretins

Incretins are hormones produced in the gut in response to food intake. They help regulate blood sugar levels by stimulating the pancreas to release insulin, which lowers blood sugar. Additionally, incretins reduce the amount of glucagon—a hormone that raises blood sugar—and slow down gastric emptying, helping you feel full longer. Two main types of incretin hormones are GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (gastric inhibitory peptide). Because of their effects on blood sugar control, incretins are of particular interest in diabetes treatment and weight management.
