Immokalee Workers
The Immokalee Workers are a group of agricultural laborers primarily from Mexico and Central America who harvest tomatoes and other crops in Florida's Immokalee region. They have historically faced tough working conditions, including low wages and exploitation. In the late 1990s, workers organized to advocate for better pay and labor rights, leading to the formation of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW). This grassroots organization campaigns for fair wages, improved working conditions, and social justice in the food industry, collaborating with consumers and businesses to promote ethical practices in agriculture.
