Home Army (Armia Krajowa)

The Home Army, or Armia Krajowa (AK), was the principal military organization of the Polish resistance during World War II. Established in 1942, it operated under the Polish government-in-exile and aimed to resist German occupation and to prepare for a post-war state. The AK engaged in sabotage, intelligence gathering, and guerrilla warfare against Nazi forces. One of its most notable actions was the Warsaw Uprising in 1944, where it attempted to liberate Warsaw from German control. After the war, the Home Army faced repression from the communist government imposed by the Soviet Union.
