Historic Scotland

Historic Scotland was an executive agency of the Scottish Government established to protect and manage Scotland's historic environment. It focused on the care of historic sites, monuments, and buildings, promoting the understanding and appreciation of Scotland's rich heritage. The agency was responsible for managing various attractions, including iconic castles and ruins, while also providing guidelines for conservation and heritage education. In 2015, Historic Scotland merged with the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland to form Historic Environment Scotland, enhancing the collective efforts to conserve and promote Scotland’s historic assets.
