Antonine Wall

The Antonine Wall was a Roman frontier built under Emperor Antoninus Pius around AD 142 in what is now Scotland. It marked the northern limit of the Roman Empire in Britain, extending about 37 miles from the Firth of Forth to the Firth of Clyde. Made of earth and stone, it featured forts and watch towers, enhancing defense against tribes to the north. The wall was part of Roman efforts to control and protect their territories. However, it was eventually abandoned after about 20 years in favor of the more famous Hadrian's Wall further south. Today, parts of it are UNESCO World Heritage sites.
