Herpes Zoster Skin Infections

Herpes Zoster, commonly known as shingles, is a viral infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. After recovering from chickenpox, the virus remains dormant in the nervous system and can reactivate later in life, often due to stress or a weakened immune system. Shingles typically presents as a painful, blistering rash on one side of the body, along with flu-like symptoms. While it usually resolves within a few weeks, it can lead to complications such as postherpetic neuralgia, characterized by severe pain in the affected area even after the rash has healed.
