Zostavax

Zostavax is a vaccine designed to help prevent shingles, a painful skin rash caused by the reactivation of the chickenpox virus. It is recommended primarily for older adults, typically those aged 50 and older, because the risk of shingles increases with age. Zostavax works by boosting the immune system to better respond to the virus. While it does not guarantee complete protection, it can reduce the severity of symptoms if shingles occurs. Vaccination can also lower the risk of complications related to shingles, such as postherpetic neuralgia, which is lingering pain after the rash heals.
