Heliocentrism
Heliocentrism is the astronomical model that positions the Sun at the center of our solar system, with the Earth and other planets orbiting around it. Proposed by Nicolaus Copernicus in the 16th century, this theory challenged the older geocentric model, which placed the Earth at the center. Heliocentrism explains the apparent movement of the planets and the changing positions of stars more accurately. It laid the groundwork for modern astronomy, emphasizing the importance of observation and mathematical calculation in understanding celestial dynamics. This shift significantly advanced our knowledge of the universe and our place within it.
