HDD (Hard Disk Drive)

A Hard Disk Drive (HDD) is a storage device used in computers to save and retrieve data. It consists of one or more spinning disks coated with magnetic material, where data is stored in the form of magnetized patterns. A read/write head moves over the disks to access or record information. HDDs are known for their large storage capacity at a lower cost compared to solid-state drives (SSDs), making them suitable for storing files, applications, and operating systems. However, they are generally slower and more susceptible to damage from physical shocks due to their moving parts.
