Harold II, also known as Harold Godwinson, was the last Anglo-Saxon king of England, ruling briefly in 1066. He came to power after the death of King Edward the Confessor. Harold is best known for his defeat at the Battle of Hastings against William the Conqueror, which marked the beginning of Norman rule in England. His reign lasted only about nine months, ending with his death on October 14, 1066.
