Tostig Godwinson

Tostig Godwinson was an influential 11th-century nobleman and the brother of King Harold II of England. He served as Earl of Northumbria but faced opposition there, leading to his temporary exile. Tostig later allied with King Harald Hardrada of Norway, attempting to claim the English throne, which resulted in the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066. His actions contributed to the chaos of that year’s invasions, ultimately culminating in the Norman Conquest of England. Tostig is remembered as a complex figure whose ambitions and alliances significantly impacted English history during a tumultuous period.
