Gurdit Singh

Gurdit Singh was an Indian freedom fighter, best known for leading the famous 1914 Komagata Maru voyage. He aimed to challenge restrictive immigration laws in Canada that discriminated against Indian immigrants. The ship, carrying over 300 passengers from India, was denied entry into Vancouver, leading to a significant legal and political battle. Singh's efforts highlighted issues of racial discrimination and immigration rights. After returning to India, he became involved in the independence movement. His story remains a symbol of resistance against colonialism and the fight for justice for immigrants.
