Gorbachev

Mikhail Gorbachev was the last leader of the Soviet Union, serving from 1985 until its dissolution in 1991. He is best known for implementing reforms like "glasnost" (openness) and "perestroika" (restructuring), which aimed to modernize the economy and increase political transparency. Gorbachev's policies contributed to the end of the Cold War by easing tensions with the West. However, his reforms also led to internal instability and the eventual collapse of the Soviet Union. Despite mixed evaluations of his impact, he is recognized for promoting democratic change and international cooperation.
