Gesellschaft (Society)
Gesellschaft, a term introduced by sociologist Ferdinand Tönnies, refers to a type of social relationship characterized by impersonal interactions and individual interests, often found in modern, urban societies. Unlike Gemeinschaft, which emphasizes close-knit communities and personal bonds, Gesellschaft emphasizes relationships based on self-interest, formal agreements, and roles in society, such as in workplaces or large organizations. People in a Gesellschaft are often connected more by social contracts and economic exchanges than by deep personal ties, reflecting the complexities and anonymity of contemporary life.
