Galactic halo

The galactic halo is a spherical region surrounding a galaxy, such as our Milky Way. It contains older stars, globular clusters, and dark matter, which cannot be seen but has mass and influences gravity. The halo extends far beyond the main disc of the galaxy. While the central area is where new stars form, the halo is mostly made up of ancient stars and remnants from the galaxy's formation. Studying the halo helps astronomers understand the galaxy's history, structure, and the unseen matter that shapes it.
