Frederick Griffith

Frederick Griffith was a British bacteriologist known for his groundbreaking work in the 1920s on the concept of DNA as the carrier of genetic information. He conducted experiments with two strains of the bacterium *Streptococcus pneumoniae*, one harmful and one harmless. Griffith discovered that when he combined heat-killed harmful bacteria with live harmless ones, the harmless bacteria transformed into a deadly strain. This process, later termed "transformation," suggested that some genetic material could transfer between bacteria, laying the groundwork for the later discovery of DNA’s role in heredity and genetics.
