Griffith (Frederick Griffith)

Frederick Griffith was a British bacteriologist known for his pioneering experiments in 1928 that revealed the process of transformation in bacteria. He studied two strains of the bacterium *Streptococcus pneumoniae*: a harmless strain and a virulent strain that caused pneumonia. Griffith discovered that when he mixed heat-killed virulent bacteria with live harmless bacteria, the latter transformed into harmful bacteria. This showed that some genetic material was transferred between the bacteria, laying the groundwork for later discoveries about DNA and inheritance. His work was fundamental in understanding how genes function and was crucial in the development of modern genetics.
