1928 experiment

The 1928 experiment, conducted by Frederick Griffith, demonstrated how bacteria can transfer genetic information. He worked with two strains of pneumococcal bacteria: a harmless type and a deadly, virulent type. When he killed the deadly bacteria and mixed them with the harmless bacteria, the harmless ones unexpectedly became deadly. This showed that genetic material from the dead bacteria was transferred to the live harmless bacteria, transforming them into deadly bacteria. This was crucial in understanding bacterial genetics and the concept of genetic material transfer, laying groundwork for later discoveries about DNA.
