Fragments of the Herculaneum Papyri
The Herculaneum Papyri are ancient writings discovered in Herculaneum, an ancient Roman city buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. These scrolls, found in a villa, are primarily philosophical texts attributed to the Epicurean school of thought. They provide valuable insights into ancient Greek philosophy, literature, and the intellectual life of the time. Unfortunately, many fragments are too damaged to read fully, but ongoing research and advanced imaging techniques are helping scholars reconstruct their content, thus offering a rare glimpse into the past and contributing to our understanding of Greco-Roman culture.
