The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is a U.S. law that allows eligible employees to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave each year for specific family and medical reasons. This includes caring for a newborn, adopting a child, or tending to a serious health condition of oneself or a family member. During this time, job security is protected, meaning you can return to your position afterward. FMLA applies to employers with 50 or more employees, and workers must have been employed for at least 12 months and worked 1,250 hours in the past year.
