FMLA eligibility
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) allows eligible employees to take unpaid leave for specific family and medical reasons. To qualify, an employee must work for a covered employer (usually with 50 or more employees), have worked at least 1,250 hours in the past year, and have been employed for at least 12 months. Eligible reasons for leave include the birth or adoption of a child, caring for a family member with a serious health condition, or addressing one's own serious health issue. FMLA provides job protection, ensuring that the employee can return to their position after leave.
