Fine-Needle Aspiration Cytology
Fine-Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) is a medical technique used to examine cells from a lump or tumor. A thin needle is inserted into the area of interest, such as a growth in the breast or thyroid, to collect a small sample of cells. These cells are then placed on a slide and analyzed under a microscope by a specialist called a cytopathologist. FNAC is a minimally invasive procedure often used to determine whether a mass is benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous), helping guide further treatment decisions.
