Farmers' Protest

The Farmers' Protest, which gained prominence in India in 2020-2021, involved thousands of farmers primarily from Punjab and Haryana. They opposed three controversial agricultural laws that aimed to liberalize the market by allowing private buyers to purchase crops directly from farmers. Protesters feared these laws would undermine traditional pricing supports and lead to exploitation by large corporations. The movement was marked by widespread demonstrations, sit-ins, and significant media attention, highlighting farmers' rights, livelihoods, and the role of agriculture in India. After prolonged negotiations, the Indian government eventually repealed the laws in late 2021, concluding the protests.
