Emmeline Pankhurst

Emmeline Pankhurst (1858-1928) was a prominent British suffragette and a key figure in the fight for women's right to vote. She founded the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) in 1903, advocating for more militant tactics to gain attention for women's suffrage. Pankhurst believed that peaceful protests were insufficient, and her organization employed rallies, hunger strikes, and civil disobedience to push for electoral reforms. Her efforts significantly raised public awareness and contributed to the eventual granting of voting rights to women in the UK. Pankhurst remains a symbol of feminism and women’s rights activism.
