The Women's Social and Political Union
The Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) was a British organization founded in 1903 to advocate for women’s suffrage, meaning the right to vote in elections. It was established by Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughters and became known for its militant strategies, including protests, hunger strikes, and civil disobedience. The WSPU aimed to raise awareness and push for political change, emphasizing that women should have an equal voice in society. Its efforts contributed significantly to the eventual granting of voting rights to women in the UK, starting in 1918.
