Discus
Discus is a track and field event where athletes throw a heavy, circular object called a discus as far as possible. It’s made of wood or plastic with a metal rim, weighing about 2 kilograms (4.4 pounds) for men and 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) for women. Competitors stand in a marked circle and use a spinning technique to gain momentum before releasing the discus. The sport tests strength, technique, and coordination, and is a staple in competitions like the Olympics. Successful throws are measured from the edge of the circle to where the discus lands.
