Desert Storm (Gulf War I)
Operation Desert Storm, initiated in January 1991, was the combat phase of the Gulf War, following Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in August 1990. A coalition led by the United States sought to liberate Kuwait and restore its sovereignty. The operation began with extensive aerial bombardments targeting Iraqi military infrastructure, followed by a swift ground assault in February. The coalition forces successfully expelled Iraqi troops from Kuwait within weeks. The conflict demonstrated the effectiveness of modern warfare tactics and highlighted the geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, leading to long-term implications for U.S. foreign policy in the region.
