Democratic-Republican Party
The Democratic-Republican Party, founded in the early 1790s by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, was one of the first political parties in the United States. It emerged in opposition to the Federalist Party and advocated for limited federal government, states' rights, and agriculture as the backbone of the economy. The party favored a strict interpretation of the Constitution and promoted the interests of the common man. Over time, it evolved and eventually became the Democratic Party by the mid-19th century, influencing American politics and policy significantly during its existence.
