Deccan Wars

The Deccan Wars (1681-1707) were a series of conflicts in India primarily between the Mughal Empire and the Maratha Empire, along with other regional powers like the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Portuguese. These wars emerged from struggles for territory and power in the Deccan Plateau region. Led by the Maratha leader Shivaji and later by his successors, the Marathas aimed to expand their influence against the declining Mughal authority. The wars played a crucial role in the eventual rise of the Marathas as a dominant force in India and contributed to the fragmentation of the Mughal Empire.
