Constantine VI (Constantine VI of Byzantium)
Constantine VI was a Byzantine emperor who reigned from 780 to 797 AD. He became emperor as a child after his mother, Empress Irene, effectively ruled as regent. His reign was marked by tensions between various factions within the empire and struggles for power. Constantine sought to strengthen the empire and restore the use of icons in worship, which had been controversial. However, he struggled against his mother’s influence and other rivals. Ultimately, he was overthrown by Irene, who then ruled as the first female emperor of Byzantium. His reign is often viewed as a period of instability.
