Battle of Sakarya
The Battle of Sakarya, fought from August to September 1921, was a key conflict during the Turkish War of Independence. Turkish forces under Mustafa Kemal pushed back against advancing Greek troops near the Sakarya River in Turkey. The battle was intense and lasted nearly two weeks, with significant casualties on both sides. Ultimately, the Turks held their position, halting Greek expansion and turning the tide of the war in favor of the Turkish nationalists. This victory strengthened their resolve and paved the way for the eventual founding of the modern Turkish state.
