Columbia (Space Shuttle)

Columbia was the first space shuttle in NASA's fleet, making its maiden flight in 1981. Designed for carrying astronauts and cargo into space, it completed 28 missions over 22 years. Columbia played a key role in space exploration, including scientific research and satellite deployment. Tragically, it was destroyed during re-entry on February 1, 2003, resulting in the loss of all seven crew members. This disaster highlighted the challenges and risks of space travel and led to significant changes in NASA's safety protocols and shuttle program. Columbia’s legacy continues to influence modern space exploration.
