STS-1

STS-1 was the first space shuttle mission, launched by NASA on April 12, 1981. It marked the debut of the Space Shuttle program, featuring the shuttle Columbia. The mission's goal was to test the shuttle's systems, demonstrate its ability to operate in space, and ensure safe re-entry and landing. Over two days, the crew conducted various checks and experiments, paving the way for future missions. STS-1 proved that reusable spacecraft could reliably carry humans and cargo to space, helping to establish a new era of routine and cost-effective space travel.
