Colonial Argentina

Colonial Argentina refers to the period when the region was part of the Spanish Empire from the 16th to early 19th centuries. Initially explored by Spanish conquistadors, it became part of the Viceroyalty of Peru and later established its own Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata in 1776. During this period, the economy relied heavily on agriculture and trade, with cities like Buenos Aires growing in importance. Colonial society was marked by a mix of Indigenous, Spanish, and African cultures. The decline of Spanish control eventually led to the struggle for independence, culminating in Argentina's independence in 1816.
