Coley's toxins
Coley's toxins are a historic cancer treatment developed by Dr. William Coley in the early 20th century. He discovered that injecting patients with a mixture of killed bacteria could provoke a strong immune response, sometimes leading to tumor shrinkage or remission. The treatment aimed to harness the body's immune system to fight cancer rather than rely solely on surgery or radiation. While considered innovative, Coley's toxins fell out of favor as more advanced therapies emerged, but recent interest in immunotherapy has renewed focus on similar concepts in using the immune system to combat cancer.
