carotid angioplasty
Carotid angioplasty is a medical procedure used to treat narrowed arteries in the neck, which can lead to strokes. In this procedure, a doctor inserts a thin tube called a catheter into the carotid artery. A small balloon at the tip of the catheter is then inflated to widen the artery and improve blood flow. Often, a stent (a tiny mesh tube) is placed in the artery to keep it open afterward. This minimally invasive technique helps reduce the risk of stroke by restoring proper blood circulation to the brain.
